Autumn intake 2024/2025. Call for applications.

University of Latvia invites prospective students to submit applications for studies at the University of Latvia for Autumnintake 2024/2025.

Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries have to apply till 20.06.24.

Admission for all study programmes will be open from January 2nd, 2024. 

Online Application:

The online application form must be submitted to apply for studies at the University of Latvia. Applicant must create an account to complete the online application. Online application form can be saved and completed in multiple sessions.

Please submit an application form only after all of the required documents are uploaded!

NOTE! Documents are only accepted in .pdf format. 

Applying for bachelor’s/master’s/PhD programme requires completed application form and upload of the following documents:

  1. General secondary school diploma/certificate in original language and a notarized copy in English (Applying for Bachelor’s degree);
  2. Bachelor’s degree diploma in original language and a notarized copy in English (Applying for Master’s degree);
  3. Two above mentioned and Master’s degree (at least two year programme) diploma in original language and a notarized copy in English (Applying for PhD.);
  4. Transcript of grades or final examination results in original language and a notarized copy in English;
  5. Diploma supplement or transcripts of records (both in original language and a notarized translation in English);
  6. Motivation letter (if required);
  7. CV (if required);
  8. English language proficiency document. No need if the previous education is obtained in English in one of the below-listed countries:
    Australia
    The Bahamas
    Canada
    Ireland
    New Zealand
    St Vincent and the Grenadines
    United Kingdom
    United States of America
    If previous education is obtained in English in another country- Skype interview with University of Latvia officials is mandatory.
  9. Passport copy;
  10. Residence permit card copy (if available);
  11. One photo;
  12. Medical report (applying for Medicine or Dentistry programmes)
  13. For PhD: Successful pass of entrance examination where applicants will be invited to an interview via Skype.

Applicants are obligated to upload:
1) A justification and framework (3-5 pages) for the chosen dissertation (no specific form defined);

2) Filled out Curriculum Vitae available HERE

After uploading all the required documents and submitting an application the applicant will receive the application and diploma recognition fee invoice (170 EUR). The application will be considered only after payment receipt will be provided, the application fee is nonrefundable and does not guarantee acceptance, applicant can cover any fees only after receiving invoice for it or after request of admission officer.

Application fee must be paid till the end of admission the deadline, even if the invoice deadline passes admission deadline, application fee can not be covered after admission deadline!

Payment description text: Application fee, NAME, FAMILY NAME and DATE OF BIRTH of the applicant

NOTE: The applicant covers the bank commission fee for transfers, it cannot be included in the amount of application fee or tuition fee.

After completing the payment, the applicant will receive a notification from the UL coordinator, who will submit the applicant’s documents to Academic Information Centre for diploma recognition (the estimated duration of the process is 4 to 6 weeks), and to study programme director for decision upon admission.

After receiving the approval from AIC and programme director, the UL coordinator sends (via regular mail or email) the following documents to the applicant:

  • Study agreement and appendix (2 originals) – one of which must be returned to the University of Latvia, second original stays with student till the graduation;
  • AIC approval (if needed for visa or residence permit);
  • Invitation (for visa or residence permit);
  • Reference from the UL about the placement in the UL residence hall (if necessary for visa and residence permit)

 

After receiving acceptance letter from the UL coordinator, the applicant completes the education document legalisation (certification of document authenticity). The documents (original diploma and transcript) must be legalised according to Hague Convention on Legalisation of Foreign Public documents. Legalisation of documents is not a notarial act. More information about process of legalisation is available here.

NB! It is recommended that the applicant completes legalisation of documents before applying for studies, and this task certainly must be concluded before applying for visa and residence permit.

 

Student Services assist international students in finding accommodation, if the students would like a place in the University residence halls. Students should apply for residence halls as soon as they have received the acceptance letter. Places in residence halls are limited, and finding alternative housing will take time. The hostel “PRIMA” is located in a 9 floor building reconstructed in 2006 with capacity of 360 tenants. Rooms available at PRIMA are the size of 10-12m² or 15-17m², where the price depends on the number of beds and tenants living in the room. All over the rooms are combined by 2 with shared WC and shower. Namely, WC and shower are shared by 3 tenants on 6th-8th floor or by 5 tenants on 2nd-5th floor.

PRIMA offers four types of rooms and two types of accommodation periods:

Long term accommodation:
Triple room (EUR 100 per month, 18 m², shared with 2 other people)
Double room with a bunk bed (EUR 130 per month, 11 m², shared with other person)
Double room (EUR 150 per month, 18 m², shared with other person)
Single room (EUR 270 per month, 11 m²)
Short term accommodation for period till maximum of one month.
NB! Only for students who will be accepted for studies at the University of Latvia.
1) Single room EUR 15 per night 11 m2, 9th floor, limited number of rooms;
2) Double room EUR 10 per night 18 m2, 9th floor, limited number of rooms;
3) Any free place EUR 7 per night, limited number of places.

How to get there?

Take the trolleybus No. 15 (runs every 5 minutes in working days; every 10 minutes on weekends and holidays). Trolleybus stop is located next to the main building of the University of Latvia. Get off at the stop named „Reznas iela” (it’s the 8th stop on route from the University of Latvia). For further directions check the following map.

GENERAL CONDITIONS
Long term accommodation:

  1. International degree and exchange students should proceed with the paymentfor accommodation only upon the acceptancefor studies at the UL.
  2.  The minimum length of stay for long term accommodation is three months and the Tenant is obligated pay the rent for first 2 months in order to book the room.
  3.  The payment must be made at least one month before the date of arrival.
  4.  The room reservation is completed as soon as the payment is transferred to the UL bank account.
  5. If there are any changes in the reservation period, send the information to the administrator (see the contact information below).
  6. If the Tenant cancels the reservation or decides to terminate the contract, the first payment will not be refunded.

Before making the reservation, you are kindly asked to read carefully the general rules and conditions stipulated in the Lease contract   , which will be signed upon arrival at the chosen student hotel. It is also highly recommended to present a proof of payment for first two months on the arrival at the student hotel.

Short term accommodation at Prima Hostel
1) This option is available only for students who will be accepted for studies at the University of Latvia
2) The maximum length of stay for short term accommodation is one month.
3) The payment for short term accommodation must be done upon arrival at Prima hostel.
4) If there are any changes in the reservation period, send the information to the administrator (see the contact information below) not later than one month before the arrival date.

APPLICATION PERIOD

For the incoming UL Exchange students

Application for the dormitories will be open starting from:

  • Autumn semester/ full year – April 15
  • Spring semester – October 15

Application deadlines:

  • Autumn semester/ full year – June 25
  • Spring semester – December 25

Please note! International degree and exchange students should proceed with the payment for accommodation only upon the acceptance for studies at the University of Latvia.

Students who have applied for studies at other higher education institutions in Latvia (except the University of Latvia, Non-UL students) may apply only for PRIMA student hostel throughout the year.
